The Network Operating Center of T.E.I. of Central Macedonia provides the members of the academic community (teachers, students, administrative staff) with wireless access service to the Internet via the wireless LAN infrastructure (WiFi).
The service is available in all open areas of the campus as well as in classrooms and offices.
The network uses dual-band 802.11a/b/g access points that support both connections at 2.4 GHz (802.11b/g) and 5 GHz (802.11a).
The T.E.I. Serres is a member of EduRoam (education roaming), a larger wireless network that interconnects many academic institutions and offers free internet access. EduRoam is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community, allowing students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop.
All users with an account in the Directory Service of T.E.I. of Central Macedonia have access rights to the wireless network. Directory Service database is automatically synchronized on a daily basis with the teaching staff and students accounts of the Electronic Secretariat system. Access to the wireless network is secured with the username and password users have in the Electronic Secretariat system.
Specifically, the following users have access rights to the WiFi network:
- Members of the academic community using the code they use in the Electronic Secretariat service.
- Visitors of other academic institutions participating in the international access infrastructure EduRoam.
- Visitors participating in seminars, conferences etc can have temporary access ("guest access") during the event.
